Evans, Dockery Invited To Las Vegas All-American Classic

STARKVILLE, Miss. -­ Mississippi State senior defensive end Willie Evans (Waynesboro, Miss.) and senior defensive back Kevin Dockery (Hernando, Miss.) have been invited to play in the 2006 Las Vegas All-American Classic, the all-star game organizers announced Wednesday.

Evans, who was named third-team all-America by the Associated Press Tuesday, earned first-team all-Southeastern Conference honors by both the league’s coaches and the news media. He is one of five finalists for the Ted Hendricks Award, given annually to the nation¹s top defensive end.

Evans, a 6-2, 270-pounder, led the SEC in tackles for loss (21) and quarterback sacks (15), and was second among all defensive linemen in total tackles (5.5 per game). He concluded his career with 47.5 tackles for loss and 24.5 sacks, the latter figure ranking third all-time at State.

Dockery, a 5-9, 187-pounder, played in 44 games during his State career, earning 38 starts from the middle of his sophomore season through the close of his career. He had 53 tackles during his senior season and tied for fifth in the league with three pass interceptions. Dockery, who was named honorable mention all-SEC by AP, had six career pass thefts.

The Las Vegas All-American Classic will be played in Sam Boyd Stadium on Saturday, Jan. 14, and will be televised nationally by College Sports Television.
