The Bulldogs made their first road trip of the season on Saturday hoping to turn the ship around or at least pump out some water. They helped UAB to their second largest crowd ever at Legion Field. UAB helped us get our first “W” of the season. The key to the ballgame was defense. Both teams came into the game with offenses that were down right offensive. While the Bulldogs did put together some really nice drives mistakes and poor execution once again killed us. Do I even need to mention the play calling, I am still having a lot of problems with our offensive game plan.
From Friday’s Post
The teams match up similarily on paper and defense looks to be both teams strength. UAB averages 11.3 points per game to our 9.7. Their defense gives up 23 points per game, and we give up 27. UAB is currently favored by 9.5 points. I really can’t believe that, but we will have to wait until Saturday evening to see if Vegas is right.
Looks like this held true. You have to give UAB credit, they did a good job in the red zone. They got turnovers when they needed them. I really felt like the line was way off on this game as well. We should have beat them by 2 or 3 touchdowns, the game should not have been close. I am looking forward to hearing Coach Croom’s comments tonight during the call in show. Games against Tulane, UAB, and Maine are games we should always win. It shouldn’t matter how down we are in talent.
So what can we take away from this game:
The Positives
- We won!
- Omarr played pretty well at QB.
- The defense bounced back from a bad game, but considering what UAB had done offensively this season they should have.
- We made a FG, a 47-yarder for Carlson.
The Negatives
- We turned the ball over at crucial points in the game. Any turnover is bad, but we killed ourselves Saturday.
- Play calling. It has been bad all year and that didn’t change Saturday. Let Omarr play!
- Why did we run the clock out at the end of the game? We had close to 2:00 minutes to get in field goal range and not go to overtime.
- Game management, we could have used a timeout at the end of the game.
The Bad News:
- We go to LSU this weekend. Luckily they took out most of the Auburn game on Tulane.
- We have to get ready for West Virginia in two weeks.
- We only have a couple of winnable looking games left. Jacksonville State, Kentucky, and Ole Miss.
